What a Companion!
"It's so funny how something as simple as a puppy can make even the hardest, toughened soldier melt upon a few kisses to the face."

Radio's Story:
One morning in late summer of 2011, a few of our Soldiers noticed a puppy wandering around the outskirts of our perimeter; there are many stray or wild dogs running around our area, but we have noticed that locals are fearful of the animals, and that they are generally viewed as unclean pests in this area of Afghanistan. The Soldiers of our FOB took the puppy under their care, nicknamed her "Radio", and since then she has become a member of our unit and the guys have greatly enjoyed her goofy and playful demeanor. The good that Radio has done for the Soldiers at this FOB is immeasurable, and you can see the guys visibly light up every time she comes loping up to greet them after a long patrol. Radio boosts morale on a daily basis, and has become near and dear to many of the Soldiers hearts here at a remote site in the mountains of Afghanistan. We would love to take her back to the States and give her a good life, as she has undoubtedly enriched ours during this deployment.
